Ashley Percival - June 6, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Ashley Percival an eleven year-old grade 6 student from St. Bernard School who is a member of the Brantford Gymnastics Academy. For the last five years, Ashley has been training between 16 to 20 hours per week developing her skills. Last summer she had the opportunity to travel to Romania and train at a Romanian National Training Centre, along with 6 other gymnasts from Brantford.
Ashley has competed and won awards at almost 20 competitions and has qualified for the last three years to compete in the Ontario Provincial Championships where she was successful in winning more awards. She competed in her first international competition held here in Brantford last month where she placed first on the vault.
Ashley competes on the uneven bars, the vault, the balance beam and floor exercise, she is currently a level 2 gymnast and will advance to a level 3 in the September. Ashley is also an excellent student and enjoys spending time with her fellow gymnasts.
