Ali Thomson - September 4, 2008
Ali Thomson is a nineteen-year-old graduate of Pauline Johnson Collegiate who has been involved in basketball for 12 years, soccer for 10 years, track and field for 8 years, hockey for 8 years and volleyball for 7 years.
She was an active member of a select soccer team from 2003 to 2008; she played Briers and CYO basketball from 2000 to 2008; she played minor hockey from 19995 to 1997 and played for the Brantford 99er’s AA boys hockey team from 1998 to 2004.
Ali was the PJ Junior Athlete of the Year in grades 9 and 10; she was the Senior Athlete of the Year in grades 12 and 13; she received hockey MVP awards in grades 10 & 11, basketball MVP awards from grades 9 to 13 and a track and field MVP award in grade 9. She finished 1st in 100m, 200m and 4 x 100 relay from grades 9 to 12 and competed at CWOSSA and OFSSA regionals each year at high school.
Ali won numerous awards and all-star nominations through her involvement with the Brantford 99er’s AA boys hockey and was a member of the team that won the 2001 Alliance Ontario Championships. She also received a variety of MVP awards and all-star nominations while playing Briers and CYO basketball. She won the Heart and Hustle Award at the Ontario Basketball Championships in 2004 and received the 2008 Bisons Alumni Top Female scholarship award.
Ali was actively involved at high school participating in the Earthquake Challenge and Phoenix Challenge fundraisers that helped raise funds and awareness for the tsunami victims in Asia and was a member of the PJ mock trial team.
She refereed elementary school soccer, basketball and volleyball games; she was a classroom assistant at Echo Place Elementary School where she helped teach students physical education; she volunteered at the Haunted Hayride at Pates Farm for 3 years; she was a scorekeeper and referee for Briers basketball; and was a volunteer coach and referee for CYO.
Ali graduated grade 12 with a 95% average and will be attending Wilfrid Laurier University for Honors Bachelor of Arts in the kinesiology program. Her goal is to pass on the life lessons, rewards and joys that she has experienced through the guidance of her coaches, teachers and teammates, to the students that she hopes to have the privilege of teaching and coaching in the future. She would also like to play women’s varsity basketball at Wilfred Laurier University.
