Alexa Santilli - November 4, 2004
This week's TCO Athlete of the Week is Alexa Santilli.
Alexa Santilli is 14, in grade nine at St. John's College, and one of the best junior girl's basketball players in the city.
She's enjoying her first season on the St. John's junior girls basketball team and has been cultivating her skills through the Catholic Youth Organization's (CYO) basketball program since she was five.
Last season, her CYO minor bantam girl's basketball team won Ontario Provincials and this past summer, the team travelled to New Brunswick to participate and then place second overall in the Eastern Provincial Championships.
Alexa has been playing three-on-three basketball for four years and her team, 'triple threat', has won three gold medals and one silver in the Gus Macker and NBA Hoop tournaments in London. She continued to excel in the sport this past summer, receiving the MVP award at the Naismith basketball camp in Huntsville.
Soccer is another one of Alexa's passions, and she's been playing the sport for over eight years. She is on the rep soccer team for the Brantford Intercity Soccer Club and her team placed second overall last season, ensuring a move up to the Premier Division for the team next season.
Alexa is currently enjoying her first year of high school at St. John's College and is taking advantage of all of the wonderful opportunities it offers to try new activities, such as track and field and volleyball. She is a good student and gives her all in everything that she takes on, and hopes to pursue a career in teaching one day.
Congratulations Alexa, and good luck! |
