Alex Paulins - October 9, 2008
Alex Paulins is a thirteen-year-old grade 8 student from Our Lady of Providence School who has been swimming with the Brantford Aquatic Club for the past 7 years.
He is a member of his school’s intermediate co-ed soccer team, a former member of Brantford Bisons football, CYO basketball, flag football, and Brantford recreational soccer.
Alex has achieved several awards for swimming; he qualified for the Junior Provincial LC Championships for the first time in July 2008 in the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m
freestyle and the 400m individual medley events. He won a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle event for 12 year old boys, and placed in the top 8 for most of the remaining events.
In December 2007 he was the 11-12 boys high point winner at the Provincial P1 Invitational Meet in Pointe Claire, Quebec. He won the Optimist award at the 2007 Brantford Aquatic Club banquet. He is ranked in the top 25 in Canada for the 100m and 800m freestyle events for 12-year-old boys for long course season ending August 2008.
Alex was a member of the 2005 Brantford Bisons Tyke Football team that won the SOFAL title; he is a coach for the Brantford Aquatic Club’s swim school program.
His future goals in swimming include qualifying during the upcoming season for the Age Group Nationals to be held July 2009 in Montreal, qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials and be selected as a member of the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Teams.
Alex is a dedicated and hardworking A student who plans on completing high school, and then continue his education by attending either the University of Victoria or the University of Western Ontario pursuing a science degree followed by a Medical degree with the future goal to be a Sports Physician working with athletes.
