Alex Guillemette - March 29, 2007
Alex Guillemette is an eighteen-year-old grade 12 student at W. Ross Macdonald School who excels in the sport of wrestling.
Alex is a three-time Brant County High School Wrestling Champion, a three-time Brant/Norfolk Wrestling Champion, a two-time CWOSSA Wrestling Champion and he placed 8 th at the 2006 OFSSA Wrestling Championships and finished 7th at 2007 OFSSA Wrestling Championships. In 2006 he placed 4th out of 35 competitors in the Ontario Juvenile Wrestling Championships.
Last year Alex started to compete in Judo and participated in two competitions, he is a member of the Brantford Judo Club and hopes to participate at the Paralympics in the future.
Alex has also been involved in track and field and cross-country running for his school; he competed at the Ontario Paralympics Track and Field Championships for three years, and qualified for Nationals twice.
Alex coached his school’s elementary wrestling team for 3 years and helped on the school paper drive project.
According to his coaches Alex gives 100% in every sport he participates in and always strives to improve himself. He sets high standards for other wrestlers at his school.
Alex has received numerous awards including the Outstanding Wrestler Award from the Ontario Blind Sports Association 3 years in a row, and the Chris Dunkerley Memorial Wrestling Award from his school 3 years in a row.
Alex plans to continue his academic and athletic career by attending College and hopes to get a job working with children.
