Alex Essery - February 9, 2006

Alex Essery is an outstanding 16-year-old athlete who has been involved in numerous sports for several years including; baseball, football, basketball, track and field, volleyball, cross country, rugby, and badminton.
Alex first began playing multiple sports in grade 6 and during the summer of 2001 he won the 1500m track & field championships, he helped his Paris fastball team win the Provincial C Championships, and was awarded the Rookie of the Year from his fastball team.
During the 2001/02 season Alex won his school's 1500m and long jump championships, was the regional track & field long jump champion and the intermediate track & field champion. He also won a home run hitting competition and helped his house league team win the league fastball championships. He was nominated and awarded the Peter Hallman Memorial award for the North Waterloo softball association.
In 2002/03 Alex played for the Paris fastball team and helped them win the Ontario C Championship finals. He was the 800m, 1500m and long jump champion, the regional long jump champion; he was the third best senior male track & field athlete and was nominated for the physical education award.
During the 2003/04 season Alex played for the Brantford Cougars fastball team, and helped them finish in first place. He placed second in discus qualifying him to go to CWOSSA, he won the midget boys basketball MVP, received the Robert Freeman memorial award at Pauline Johnson and was awarded the Gary Snowden Memorial award from the Bisons Alumni.
In 2004/05 his fastball team won the Provincial B Championships, he placed 2nd in discus, 2nd in the 300m hurdles and 2nd in the 4 x 100m relay. Alex qualified for CWOSSA for all three events then went on to OFSSA for the 4 x 400m relay. He won the Junior Boys basketball heart and hustle award and the Junior Male Athlete of the Year at Pauline Johnson.
This season he was a member of his school's senior football team that won the city championships and finished in first place at CWOSSA.
Alex also enjoys volunteering with the Bran-Lyn Optimists club helping with their Christmas parade floats and their annual junior golf tournaments. He regularly helps referee and keep score for elementary school basketball games.
In the future Alex plans to continue his academic and athletic careers at university and hopes to become a Phys Ed teacher. He is very grateful for the guidance and support that his coaches have given him over the years and would like to thank Scott Mitchell, Al Staats and Ken Chisholm.
