Ashley Steckle - August 16, 2001
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Adam Welsh an 18 year-old OAC student who attends Pauline Johnson and is a starting tale back with the Brantford Bisons Sr. Ontario Varsity football team. Adam is currently #1 on his team for rushing yards, #4 in the league and was nominated for the leagues rushing-back award. Last year Adam was a starting tailback for the Bisons Jr. Varsity football team that ended the 2000 season winning the championships, and in 1999 was a co-MVP award winner with the P.J.C.V.S. football team that won their championships. Adam also excels at track and field and is anchor for the 4x100 relay team that finished 8th at OFSAA and also broke the 4x100 CWOSSA record. He won first at the Brant County championships in 100m, 200m, 400m along with the 4x100 and 4x400. Adam has also competed at the Provincial and National levels in 100m, 200m, and 400m races. He currently holds the 200m record at PJ with a time of 21.9 sec. Adam hopes to attend university after his OAC year taking Kinesiology and wants to participate in football or track and field. This Saturday Adam along with the rest of his football team will compete for the Ontario Championships in Essex.
Congratulations Adam and Good Luck to the entire Bisons Sr. Ontario Varsity team. |
