Erica Motheral - December 21, 2006
Erica Motheral is a sixteen-year-old grade 11 student from Paris District High School who is involved in a variety of sports including volleyball, basketball, soccer, cross country, badminton, and track and field.
Erica has been recognized for her athletic ability by receiving the grade 9 Coach’s Award for volleyball, the grade 9 and 10 Coach’s Awards for basketball, and the grade 10 Junior Girls Athlete of the Year Award.
In the 2005/2006 volleyball season the PDHS junior team participated in the St. Mary’s tournament where Erica received the MVP Award. Also, in 2005 Erica attended Olympia Sports Camp where she received the Hustle Award. Erica recently received the McDonald’s Employee of the Month Award.
She has contributed to the success of several school sport teams by winning the Midget and Junior BCSSA Volleyball Championships, and the 2004 and 2005 Midget and Junior BCSSA Cross Country Championships.
Erica’s junior volleyball team captured first place at the tournament they hosted at PDHS last season. Also, in 2005/2006 she was a member of the PDHS junior basketball team which captured first place at the Hagersville Invitational Tournament. Erica helped her mixed doubles badminton team place 3 rd at the 2006 BCSSA Championships. Erica joined the Ontario Volleyball Association where she is playing for Brantford’s Under 17 team this year.
Erica has been playing Paris rep. soccer for 3 years and CYO basketball for 7 years. Her soccer team won the 2006 under 19 Twin Rivers Soccer League Championships; in 2004 they won the under 16 girls Select Soccer Championships and several other soccer championships.
Erica was on the honor role in grades 9 and 10 and maintained an average of 94%. She has received several academic awards at high school including the highest Average in grade 9 (94%), the highest Science mark in grade 9 (95%), the highest History mark in grade 10 (96%) and the Phys. Ed award. Also, in grade 10 she represented PDHS at the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference.
Erica was a volunteer at her church as a Sunday school teaching assistant, she helped with several children’s Christmas musicals and the Super Book Olympics. In 2004, she was a time keeper for Paris Minor Ball Hockey and in 2005 she was a basketball camp leader in training.
Erica’s goals for the future are to attend university and play volleyball while continuing to focus on her studies. She hopes to someday become an obstetrician/ gynecologist.
