Alyse Hinton - June 23, 2005
Alyse Hinton is a grade seven student from Notre Dame School who excels at her favourite sport of basketball. She has been involved in the CYO basketball house league program since 1999, and two years ago she decided to play rep ball. In 2003 Alyse was a member of the Major Atom A CYO Falcon team that won four silver medals at five tournaments and she played on a house league team that finished third overall. This season Alyse played on the CYO AA Bantam rep team that won three bronze medals in five tournaments.
Alyse also enjoys playing on the Notre Dame's basketball team and helped them win gold at the AAAA Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board's basketball tournament, after she sunk the winning basket in double overtime against the reigning champs from Our Lady of Providence.
Always looking for ways to improve her basketball skills, Alyse enjoys participating in basketball camps and is looking forward to attending several this summer. Her team was thrilled to take home the gold medal from the North Park basketball camp last year, and she can't wait to get back on the court. She is also a champion at the Free Throw, winning top titles at the St. Patrick School Free Throw competitions from 2001 to 2004.
Alyse loves track and field and has participated in the sport since grade four. In 2004 she was her school's junior shot put champion and was selected to compete at the City track meet. She participated in the Brantford Classic Run from 1999 to 2003 and recently expressed an interest in playing volleyball and tennis.
In her spare time, Alyse is involved in many school programs including the line dancing club, robotics club, she helps out with set-up in the special education classroom and activity centres throughout the year.
Alyse has also been a guest speaker at the grade six graduation (2004) for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, part of her school's choir that placed second in the Kiwanis Festival (2002), a serious contender in her school's chess club, and winner of the Outstanding Safety Patroller of the Month in 2004.
Alyse loves school and has the marks to prove it - she currently has an 82 per cent average and at St. Patrick's School was on the honour roll and received the Principal's Award.
Alyse is already looking forward to the future and can't wait until she attends high school where she plans to continue playing basketball and hopes to give volleyball and track and field a try.
She then hopes to attend university and become a teacher or veterinarian.
Congratulations Alyse, and good luck! |
